State Officer Biographies

CharlesCharles Hill
State President

As Texas DECA State President, Charles Hill is thrilled to serve all of Texas DECA. A member of the class of 2015, Charles was born in North Carolina and attends The Woodlands High School in The Woodlands.

Charles’ first DECA moment occurred during his sophomore year when he was assigned the DECA spread for his school’s yearbook. Before being elected, he competed in the Hospitality and Tourism Professional Selling event, winning a trophy at State CDC twice.

In addition to his passion for DECA, Charles is also a Lincoln-Douglas debater who enjoys learning about deep philosophy. Outside of the debate setting, however, he seeks to understand concepts rather than argue. An avid traveler, Charles Hill enjoys meeting new people and experiencing foreign customs in his family’s RV. He is the founder and president of his school’s Ethics Bowl team, and a finalist at regional competition. He is also the team captain of his school’s UIL Spelling and Vocabulary team and a teammate of the UIL Current Issues team. He serves as director of the Interact Club and is also a member of the Principal’s Leadership Council.

Charles is excited to serve Texas DECA, an exceptional organization with incredible leaders. He is confident that the state can excel to new levels this year and is honored to be able to give back to DECA. Brenton Brenton Novit
Vice President-Team Operations

Brenton Novit, member of the class of 2015 at Lake Highlands High School in Dallas, Texas, is honored and excited to serve as Texas DECA’s 2014-2015 Vice President of Team Operations.

Brenton joined DECA during his sophomore year, when he competed with the first ever group of competitors from his chapter. All five of those first competitors advanced to the 2013 State CDC in Corpus Christi, where Brenton placed as an alternate for ICDC in Sports and Entertainment Marketing Series. The following year, Brenton served as the Lake Highlands chapter president and the District XI Vice President in addition to advancing to the 2014 ICDC in Atlanta, Georgia with his partner in Sports and Entertainment Promotion Plan. This was the first time DECA members from Lake Highlands High School advanced to ICDC.

Aside from DECA, Brenton is a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. He also plays for the Lake Highlands Varsity Tennis Team, which has won six consecutive district championships from 2008-2013. Brenton loves to play table tennis as well, serving as the first Match Coordinator for the Lake Highlands Table Tennis Club, founded in 2014.

Through DECA, Brenton has gained leadership skills and enjoyed many great experiences. He is ready to contribute time and effort as well as work with his outstanding State Action Team to serve Texas DECA. Jeff Jeff Herrington
Vice President-Statewide Campaigns

Jeff Herrington is honored to be serving as the 2014-2015 Texas DECA Vice President of Statwide Campaigns. A member of the graduating class of 2015, Jeff was born in San Angelo, Texas and attends Central High School. After high school, Jeff plans to attend the University of Texas-Austin where he will be majoring in general business with plans for law school in the years after.

As a second-year member, Jeff originally joined DECA as a junior and has since held positions at the chapter level. In his first yea,  he was elected to the position of chapter Treasurer, and in his second year, he was elected as chapter President. After deciding to run for District office in his second year, he was elected as District IX Vice President, which he relinquished after being elected as a State Officer.

In addition to DECA, Jeff has been a member of the Central High School Baseball team for three years, and was elected “Most Humorous” of his Freshman class. Outside of school, Jeff has been involved with Sierra Vista United Methodist youth group for over five years. He has been on various mission trips such as visiting the Joplin, MO tornado devastated areas to help rebuild homes and communities. He is scheduled to attend his fourth mission in the summer of 2014 in Moore, OK. In his free time, Jeff is an avid golfer, enjoys snow skiing, and time with his friends and family.

MonicaMonica Cabello
Vice President-Visual Media

As a member of the Texas DECA State Action Team, Monica Cabello is honored to serve as the Vice President of Visual Media. Born in Monterrey, Mexico, she is a member of the class of 2015 at The Woodlands High School in The Woodlands, Texas.

Monica has been involved in DECA ever since she moved to the United States  during her sophomore year. Monica is a member of the TWHS DECA Chapter Officer Panel and serves as the Vice President of Finance. In each of her years as a member of DECA, she has advanced to SCDC, and she is now ready to serve as an avid State Officer.

Apart from DECA, Monica is also an active member of Student Council and Interact at her high school. She also shares a passion for Model United Nations that led her to become Chief of Technology during her freshman year. She enjoys working alongside hardworking people who inspire her to become a more diverse and culturally emerged student. In her free time, she enjoys competitive dancing, which has taught her that through practice and perseverance, anything is possible. Through all of these activities, she has met lots of people whom one day she hopes to help.

MattMatt Gonzalez
Vice President-Leadership Development

From Veterans Memorial High school’s graduating class of 2015, Matt Gonzalez is honored to be given the opportunity to represent Texas DECA as the 2014-2015 Vice President of Leadership Development.

Matt has been a member of DECA since his sophomore year. In that year, he placed at SCDC in Corpus Christi and advanced to ICDC in Anaheim, California in the Advertising Campaign Event. Along with those accomplishments, Matt also had the honor of being elected as President-Elect for his chapter, which will reserve the President position for him to take on his senior year. After serving as Secretary for District I, he decided to take it to the next level and achieved his goal of becoming a State Officer, as well as competing for the second time at SCDC in Dallas. Grateful for the growth in his leadership skills and speaking skills, Matt plans to pursue a career in either Psychology or Performing Arts.

Apart from DECA, Matt is involved in extracurricular activities such as Junior Class and Key Club, which was founded by our former Secretary, Galilea Zorola, and which allows more community service within our area. He is also very involved in Valley Destiny’s youth ministries, and enjoys volunteering¬† and community service projects, which greatly contributes to his DECA chapter.

Matt is excited and more than ready for what his new position has in store for him and would only hope to continue the tradition of an amazing State Action Team along with his fellow officers. TylerTyler McBee
Vice President-Social Media

Tyler McBee is honored and excited to serve as the 2014-2015 Texas DECA Vice President of Social Media. As a member of the class of 2015, Tyler was born in Callahan, Florida and now attends Legacy Christian Academy in Beaumont.

Tyler is a two-year DECA member and has been an active member, serving as the Founder and President of his local DECA chapter during his junior year. He has been able to advance to SCDC and ICDC in Hotel and Lodging Management and is also a DECA Direct Social Media Correspondent. Tyler is thrilled and blessed to have the opportunity to serve the great members of Texas DECA this year, which will allow him to live out his passion daily. In addition to DECA, Tyler is also an active member of National Honor Society, and Student Council committees, as well as in his community and in his church. Tyler also enjoys playing golf in his free time.

By serving as a Texas DECA State Officer, Tyler will connect with the members and advisors of Texas DECA, helping to make Texas DECA the best it can be. DECA has already given Tyler so much in the form of great experiences, memories, and friendships, and he can’t wait to give back in the same way.
