Why Have a DECA Chapter?

The purpose of DECA is to provide learning opportunities to marketing education students through goal-oriented chapter activities. The focus of these activities is always upon developing greater understanding and appreciation for marketing, management, and entrepreneurship.

The DECA chapter is to the marketing education program what a civic or professional organization is to a group of businesspeople. Chapter activities are recognized as a part of the total educational program, and are considered co-curricular, because they develop leadership skills, professional attitudes, business competencies, citizenship characteristics, and social growth development.

DECA is a student centered organization that will prepare and develop:

     • Hands-on marketing, management and entrepreneurial skills
     • Leadership characteristics

Managing Your DECA Chapter.

Many factors play an important role in developing a strong local DECA chapter. Among those factors include an enthusiastic advisor (s); actively recruit members, selection of chapter officers, and school and community support. What makes your chapter successful is the enthusiasm of its members and their dedication to accomplishing chapter and state goals.

When properly organized, your local chapter will be a selling point to your school, business and industry. Through your active involvement, your community will learn of DECA’s mission, goals, and outstanding business leaders. DECA provides a co-curricular avenue for students to showcase their skills and abilities first hand.
